Mark Kistler's books were enjoyed by my daughter and her children. We love to draw. Mark makes it fun and easy. Although I like the work of his mentor, which his first books mirrored with exactness, these later books build on instead of copy Bruce McIntyre's style. Age eight or nine on up will enjoy this book if they like to draw.

While this book has much value,fun, and good content, be aware that it is a booklet of 32 pages compared to Draw Squad and Kistlers Imagination Station: Learn How to Draw in 3D. They have about 250 pages. You will get more for your money in terms of more lessons/info with the other 2 books.

Easy to follow drawing instructions.

My grand-daughter is only 4 years old yet from the time she's been 2 she has loved to draw. She has tried to copy just what she sees and gets frustrated when she can't. So thought I should nurish her intrest in it. And I started learning with her for fun. First I brought books for me thinking I could teach her once I learned to better draw. Ha! I can't tell you how much money I wasted and felt like a failure.Trying to learn more realism in what I was drawing. They go from this to a finished product in 10 seconds and your scratching your head going what did I miss? So, I bought several of these books for her thinking at least they had cute critters in them she'd at least have fun with them. She follows with no instruction from me at all, just from looking at the pictures of what he's doing and can't read a word of it. Her pictures don't look exactly like his but she now draws a better circle than I do and she's have a great time with it. Has not once gotten frustrated because she can't draw just what she sees, as far as she's concerned she has, she drew the first circle that's an accomplishment to her. And from his strange creatures, doesn't matter to her if she's drawing a person with 20 arms and 4 legs she's drawn something and it's beautiful to her which is what's important. So weather your 4 or 43 it's well worth every penny. :-)Christopher Hart another great teacher check out his books as well. He'll teach you to draw 20 different sets of eyes, and several poses so you don't have to draw just what he's teaching you, you can mix it all up and still come out with a great drawing. Very easy to understand and follow.

I have a daughter in 5th grade and she is a huge fan of this book series. The step-by-step apprach has her creating masterpieces every time! The drawings are a lot of fun, so she doesn't get bored with drawing mundane objects over an over. The drawing style is also cool and doesn't feel outdated like so many drawing books for kids do. I recommend these books very highly.

About the Author

Dr. Mark Krause received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Central Washington University, and his PhD at the University of Tennessee in 2000. He completed a post-doctoral appointment at the University of Texas at Austin where he studied classical conditioning of sexual behavior in birds. Following this, Krause accepted a research fellowship through the National Institute of Aging to conduct research on cognitive neuroscience at Oregon Health and Sciences University.  He has conducted research and published on pointing and communication in chimpanzees, predatory behavior in snakes, the behavioral and brain basis of conditioned sexual behavior, and the influence of testosterone on cognition and brain function. Krause began his teaching career as a doctoral candidate and continued to pursue this passion even during research appointments. His teaching includes courses in general psychology, learning and memory, and behavioral neuroscience.   Krause is currently an associate professor of psychology at Southern Oregon University, where his focus is on teaching, writing, and supervising student research. He spends his spare time riding and racing his bike, cooking, reading, and enjoying Oregon's outdoors.

 

Dr. Daniel Corts received his B.S. in Psychology from Belmont University and his PhD in Experimental Psychology at the University of Tennessee in 1999.  He completed a post-doctoral position at Furman University for one year where he focused on the teaching of psychology. Corts is now Associate Professor of Psychology at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, where he has been for over 10 years.  While in graduate school, he focused on language and gesture production.  He has since branched out to explore intentional forgetting, and has also published in the area of college student development. Corts also likes to conduct research in just about any topic his students wish to explore.  In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his two children, traveling, camping, and cooking.

But Munnu’s is a childhood experienced against the backdrop of conflict. Bilal’s classmates are crossing over into the Pakistan-administered portion of Kashmir to be trained to resist the ‘occupation’; Papa and Bilal are regularly taken by the military to identification parades where informers will point out ‘terrorists’; Munnu’s school is closed; close neighbours are killed and the homes of Kashmiri Hindu families lie abandoned, as once close, mixed communities have ruptured under the pressure of Kashmir’s divisions.

Munnu is an amazingly personal insight into everyday life in Kashmir. About the Author

Malik Sajad was born in 1987, in Srinagar, Kashmir. His illustrations and stories have appeared in various local and international publications. He studied Visual Art at Goldsmiths, University of London.
